Recent developments in the ABINIT software package

چکیده
ABINIT is a package whose main program allows one to find the total energy, charge density, electronic structure and many other properties of systems made of electrons and nuclei, (molecules and periodic solids) within Density Functional Theory (DFT), Many-Body Perturbation Theory (GW approximation and Bethe-Salpeter equation) and Dynmical Mean Field Theory (DMFT). ABINIT also allows to optimize the geometry according to the DFT forces and stresses, to perform molecular dynamics simulations using these forces, and to generate dynamical matrices, Born effective charges and dielectric tensors. The present paper aims to describe the new capabilities of ABINIT that have been developed since 2009. It covers both physical and technical developments inside the ABINIT code, as well as developments provided within the ABINIT package. The developments are described with relevant references, input variables, tests and tutorials. PACS: 70; 71.15.Mb; 78

ABINIT is a Fortran 90 free software application that allows the atomic-scale simulation of properties of matter, thanks to Density Functional Theory and Many-Body Perturbation Theory. It is used by more than thousand individuals, who enjoy the wide spectrum of properties that ABINIT allows to compute easily. Several dozen developers contribute to ABINIT from different parts of the world. In 20...
متن کاملPET vs. SPECT: in the context of ongoing developments
This paper intends to compare the abilities of the two major imaging modalities in nuclear medicine imaging: Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT). The motivations are many-fold: (i) To gain a better understanding of the strengths and limitations of the two imaging modalities in the context of recent and ongoing developments in hardware ...
متن کاملTransforming the high-performance 3d-FFT in ABINIT to enable the use of non-blocking collective operations
This article describes the implementation of the three-dimensional Fast Fourier Transformation in the application ABINIT and investigates a possible way to enhance parallel performance by leveraging communication/computation overlap. We propose code transformations that enable the use of non-blocking collective operations which are implemented by an MPI extension library (LibNBC). The transform...
متن کاملDaubechies wavelets as a basis set for density functional pseudopotential calculations.
Daubechies wavelets are a powerful systematic basis set for electronic structure calculations because they are orthogonal and localized both in real and Fourier space. We describe in detail how this basis set can be used to obtain a highly efficient and accurate method for density functional electronic structure calculations. An implementation of this method is available in the ABINIT free soft...
متن کاملRecent Developments in Discrete Event Systems
This article is a brief exposure of the process approach to a newly emerging area called "discrete event systems" in control theory and summarizes some of the recent developments in this area. Discrete event systems is an area of research that is developing within the interstices of computer, control and communication sciences. The basic direction of research addresses issues in the analysis an...
